Hello, hello! Sorry for the delayed reveal of this month’s box. I had the pleasure of a little get away trip with my hubs and although I fully intended to get some work done while away, I never once opened my laptop. Still, it was time well spent. 🙂
As for this month’s fantastic Essentials Box, let me just say, it was soooooo fun to put together! We really enjoyed making labels, teaming up with the fantastic ladies over at Red Fox Lane, and narrowing down our favorite roller bottle recipes. Each month, we want to focus on one of 3 ways to use essential oils in every day life and this month is all about using oils topically.
We use oils topically every single day in our skin care, soaps and lotions, and of course, in roller bottles. Some roller bottles I buy already made (such as the Touch line by doTERRA) and some I make myself. Everyone in my family has sensitive skin so we dilute everything just to play it safe and roller bottles are a great way to dilute a larger amount so I’m not having to dilute every time I want to apply an oil to someone.
This month, we included 6 glass roller bottles with fabulous stainless steel roller balls that you can use for years and years. The stainless steel won’t react with your oils so they won’t breakdown over time. It’s easy to pop the top off and refill when necessary.
These are 10ml bottles which hold quite a lot. Typically, we add 10 or more drops of oil (one kind or a variety) and then top off with fractionated coconut oil, which we also supplied in the box in a refillable, leak proof bottle. Because if you don’t have it handy, you might not make your blends! The Essentials Box includes everything you need to put together something awesome each month. That’s why everyone needs one in their own mailbox. 😉
To label those fantastic bottles, we actually did something a little crazy – we made our own labels out of heavy-duty packing tape. Say what??? It was so fun! For our subscribers, we made the labels from start to finish and stuck them on the bottles but I enjoyed it so much that I wrote a nice and lengthy tutorial to show you the steps. There’s even an edited video. Boom.
Go make some awesome labels.
As exciting as the labels were, we maybe were the most excited about these adorable little roller bottle carrying cases from Red Fox Lane. You guys! Attach one or more case to your purse, backpack (kid’s backpack!), diaper bag, gym bag – anywhere. They’ll protect your glass roller bottle while keeping it handy to use. The snap is really secure and the stitching is nice and strong.
Red Fox Lane is a mom/daughter team right here in Hays County, Texas. We love local and we love small business! These ladies are so awesome. They have the cutest cases in some of the best, trendy fabrics and their quality is top-notch! I’m coo-coo for coco puffs over this beauty but then I can’t get over this one and look at the little cases just to hold your precious rollers! So many amazing choices! The big cases hold up to 12 bottles and you can add in the smaller roller bottle cases in you want or carry them separately.
I am in love. What’s even MORE exciting is that our readers get 10% off by using the code AROMAGIRLS10! Whoop!! Go get a case! Seriously, you’ll love it and you’ll be so happy to have a cute case (or 10) to haul your oils around in. Find Red Fox Lane on Instagram and Etsy.
And, of course, our roller bottles were accompanied with 6 of our favorite recipes. There are a million different recipes you can mix up in your own bottles. Do a quick search on Pinterest or Google or follow your nose and make your own. A few tips:
Keep it simple – don’t add more than 5 oils and 3 or less is really a better choice. If you want a complicated blend, you might consider looking at blends such as doTERRA’s Serenity (our free sample this month!) which is expertly blended and perfectly proportioned and balanced for the most effectiveness. Essential oil chemistry is a true science. I don’t even pretend to be qualified! But I do like to reap the benefits from those who are!
Don’t forget to label your bottles! Do you know how many mystery bottles I’ve accumulated over the years? I make them for a specific reason (mosquito season, for example) thinking I’ll remember what’s in it but, no. They always get mixed up and we always end up guessing. I use a lot of the same oils in various combination so the sniff test is more difficult than you might expect. Did I mention how fun our DIY labels are to make? 😛
Store your creations out of direct light and I always store mine standing up, just to keep the oil off the roller ball. With the stainless steel, that’s probable not really necessary anymore but I still do it out of habit. 🙂
Have fun making your own genius concoctions! And come back and share your favorites! Here’s a fun recipe to get your creative juices flowing:
5 drops bergamot
5 drops lavender
5 drops frankincense
Top with fractionated coconut oil, put the top on and roll away. This is an amazing blend to offer someone in a difficult situation. For example, a friend or relative in the hospital – roll this blend on their hand and gently massage in to help lift their spirits, ease fear and frustration, and calm nerves. I promise, you’ll love it and they will too! It works equally well on a cranky kid (or mommy…).
Happy oiling, friends!
